You and PDF

Why We Provide Material on Eductrak as PDFs

Eductrak content may always be accessed in the PDF format. Some material is also made available in the HTML format. Both formats are suitable for display on your monitor. We suggest that you download the PDF version if you wish to print an issue, rather than simply printing the web pages. Sometimes when you print a web page, it does not come out exactly as you see it on the screen. It may be too small, or it may be cut off in places. The PDF file is in a "print friendly" format that ensures an Eductrak issue will print correctly.

More Information on the PDF

PDF stands for "portable document format". The PDF was invented by Adobe Systems Inc. as a way to provide a "print-friendly" file that is accessible on almost any type of computer. Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free application that lets you read and print any PDF file. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to access a PDF version of an Eductrak issue. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat reader, you may download it for free on Adobe's web site. Click the image that says "Get Adobe Reader" and you will be automatically taken to a page with directions on how to download Acrobat Reader. Once the download is complete, come back to our site to get the PDF version of an Eductrak issue.

Information on Downloading For Beginners

When you download a file, you are simply copying it from a remote computer onto your computer. It is the same as copying a file from a floppy disk or CD except, instead, you are copying from another computer. Normally, to download a file, you click the appropriate link and a small window appears that shows a progress bar with the time remaining until completion of the down- load. When the download is complete, it will be stored on your hard drive in a location specified by your web browser. Often this location will be the "desktop" or a special folder reserved for downloads. Once a file has been downloaded, it is just like any other file on your computer. Simply double click it to open it, or click and drag to move it to a new location. Remember that downloading can be somewhat time consuming. A relatively small document like an issue of Eductrak should download in just a short time. A large program like Adobe Acrobat Reader, however, may take up to half an hour.

If you do not have Acrobat Reader click the "Get Acrobat Reader" image.
